Rocky
Where the planet shows its bones and the factory climbs the cliffs.
Rocky is one of Satisfactory's primary surface biomes, a rugged and elevated stretch of terrain defined by towering stone outcrops, sheer cliff faces, and sparse, wind-scoured vegetation. Where the Forest biome offers rolling green hills, Rocky presents a landscape of raw geology—jagged peaks, natural overhangs, and deep ravines that reward players willing to build vertically.
It serves as a critical early-to-mid-game resource hub, particularly for Limestone (the raw material for Concrete) and Iron ore, making it an unavoidable stop on the road to advanced manufacturing. Its dramatic verticality also makes it a favorite location for ambitious base builders who want to exploit natural ledges and cave mouths.

Lore & Background
The survey logs recovered from the FICSIT facility describe the Rocky zone as a region of intense tectonic activity, where the planet's crust has been folded, fractured, and uplifted over geological millennia. The stone here is dense, layered, and rich in silicate deposits—exactly the kind of raw material a civilization built on concrete and steel would need. The FICSIT automation arrays that once dotted the area were designed to extract Limestone and Iron in massive quantities, their half-buried housings still visible among the boulders.
Rockers, the biome's dominant fauna, appear to have evolved in direct symbiosis with the mineral-rich substrate. Their dense, chitinous shells mimic the surrounding rock so effectively that early survey drones repeatedly misclassified them as geological formations. They are territorial and aggressive when their nesting ledges are disturbed, making them a persistent hazard for anyone setting up extraction equipment near their colonies.
The biome's verticality tells its own story. Deep fissures cut through the rock, some descending into the cavern systems below, while others open into wide amphitheaters where the wind howls between the spires. It is a place that feels older than the rest of the planet—a remnant of the world's first, most violent geological chapter, preserved in stone.
In Their Own Story
The generator hummed to life at 0300, and for a moment the only sound was the soft tick of cooling metal. Mara pressed her forehead against the cold glass of the window and watched the Rockers scatter from their ledge, their heavy bodies clattering down the scree slope in a slow, grinding avalanche of stone-colored limbs.
Below, the Limestone extractor had been chewing through the cliff face all night, its drill bit singing a high, thin note that carried across the ravine. Concrete mixers waited in a neat row, hoppers full, ready to turn the pale dust into something solid. Something permanent.
She keyed the comms. "FICSIT, this is the Rocky site. Limestone output is stable. Iron vein's running dry on the east face, but we'll have the secondary shaft open by morning."
Static. Then, faintly, a voice from the facility: "Copy. Keep the Rockers off the catwalks."
Mara almost laughed. She looked out at the jagged skyline, the stars pricking through the thin high-altitude air, and thought: *permanent*. Yeah. She'd build it permanent.
Reader's Guide
The Rocky biome announces itself the moment you crest the final Forest ridge: the green thins, the ground turns to pale grey and rust-brown, and the horizon becomes a serrated skyline of stone spires and broken ridgelines. The light here is harsher, the air thinner, and the wind picks up in the gaps between outcrops, carrying a faint mineral dust that settles on your visor.
Key resources to target: Limestone (abundant, often exposed in cliff faces and surface boulders), Iron ore (veins embedded in the rock, frequently requiring a bit of mining or a Drilling Rig), and scattered Copper deposits. Rockers are the primary fauna; they cluster on ledges and overhangs, so plan your extractor placement to avoid their nesting zones or expect a very unpleasant surprise.
Landmarks to navigate by: the large natural arches and cave mouths that punctuate the cliff walls, the series of progressively taller rock spires that form a natural compass, and the wide, flat-topped mesa that offers the best early base site in the biome.
Terrain quirks: the verticality is extreme. You will need a Conveyor Elevator, a Pylon chain, or a well-placed Jetpack to move between levels. Natural overhangs make excellent shelter for base modules, but they also block sunlight for Solar Panels. Watch for loose scree slopes that will collapse if you place heavy structures on them, and note that several cave entrances here descend into the underground cavern network—bring a light and be prepared for a different set of hazards below.
Did You Know?
- Limestone, the signature resource of the Rocky biome, is the essential ingredient for Concrete, which in turn is required for many mid- and late-game structures and recipes.
- Rockers' camouflage is so effective that they are frequently mistaken for ordinary rock formations until they move, making them one of the most surprising early-game encounters.
- The Rocky biome's cliff faces and natural overhangs are among the most popular locations for players who prefer to build multi-level bases without extensive scaffolding.
- Several cave entrances in the Rocky zone connect to the underground cavern system, meaning a single mining operation on the surface can accidentally open a path to entirely different biomes below.
